The Welcome Diner is a great spot for food and drinks tucked in the historical Roosevelt art district close to Downtown. The classic Diner serves food until 2am, so you can walk, stumble, or drive to their Phoenix location even late night. Eating food at the Diner late has a great atmosphere experience and I highly recommend grabbing a stool inside at the bar, ordering a beer and prepare to be transported back to the 40s and 50s in the original 9 stool Diner.

The food is nothing short of amazing here at the Welcome Diner. My most recent visit had me ordering the Big Jim Biscuit, a tall cold Pabst, and the Carol Fries. This is a hearty, classic and substantial meal, not your average diner food, The Welcome Diner is gourmet cuisine. The Big Jim consisted of juicy fried chicken, thick home style country gravy, thick cut bacon, and melted cheddar cheese on a fluffy flake crusted homemade biscuit. Needless to say, my mouth was salivating when the order came. The Carol Fries are fresh cut potatoes smothered in pulled pork, Carolina BBQ, and slaw and it was a huge hearty portion for the price. I substituted the pork for the vegan/vegetarian jack fruit and was not disappointed. The jack fruit is a great alternative for those who don’t eat meat and it has the same consistency and texture of real pork, don’t be afraid to try it, level up! Trying new foods is a great part of what is exciting about life and we as foodies in Phoenix, AZ depend on restaurants like Welcome Diner to offer up new and exciting foodie fare for our awaiting Phoenician palates.

Other menu items include fresh burgers with all of the best restaurant fixin’s, gourmet salads, multiple southern style stacked biscuit sandwiches, and don’t forget to order the Canadian favorite dish of poutine. If you were not educated on poutine, it is a French Canadian drunk delicacy where gravy and fries are piled high with cheese curds. We love poutine and we know that you will love it as well. The Diner also has a rotating selection of local tap craft beer, which is a great way to wash down your Big Jim as well as cheap drink specials and booze on tap. Eat outside on the patio or inside at that tiny little bar right by the chefs in the open kitchen, you’re sure to have a nice stay at the Welcome Diner.
