Pig , Pickle, Shockingly affordable comfort gourmet

Phoenix 24 is all about all late night eats. It seems like Phoenix is unrolling more and more great places to eat late at night, especially in Tempe, Mesa and Scottsdale. We were driving out to a movie at Studio Movie Grill when we happened to see the Pig , amp; Pickle. Movie plans cancelled! We sat down on the mist cooled patio and ordered almost all the items on the late night snacks menu.

hi, we’re pig , amp; pickle.

obviously, we dig the pig…and pickles. but don’t call us one dimensional….

the idea behind the brand is all about balance. sweet needs sour, old needs new, black needs white, chocolate needs salt. we support local when possible, small farmers, happy animals, real sugar, real fat, real art, bike loving people and dogs…oh yea, and bad grammar. we hand craft our cocktails, bake our bread daily, make our own aioli and grow our own herbs….

simple, humble, good. – From the Pig and Pickle website.

Everything was fantastic. The drinks were unique, crisp and refreshing. So delicious.

The bone marrow (wood oven roasted bone marrow, crostini, onions $8) was buttery and delightful. Spreading the creamy bone marrow onto the bread and dressing it with the delicate onions was just too good. The bone marrow could have been cooked a little bit more into the melt zone, but it was near perfect and for the price tag could not be beat.

The pickle platter (some pickled things $4) was an incredible value. Pickled eggs, beets, grapes, kimchi and more. Superb mixes of sweet and salty, even our pickle hating editor Jeff was giving them a try… now that’s a ringing endorsement!

The duck fat fries (duck fat fries $5) brought us right back into the 90’s, back when fries tasted awesome before the long debunked trans-fat craze.

We’re starting to sound like broken records but the cheese platter (four cheeses, jam, honey and toast * $10) was also delicious. There was a good variety of both tastes and textures and the value can not be beat. Dining in Chicago last week, we ordered very similar items in Chicago for $25+…. while the Pig , amp; Pickle cheese platter was a steal at only $10.

The service was warm, prompt and very informative. Every dish was explained and detailed to us when it was delivered.  Not a member of the staff did not perform. We wouldn’t hesitate to ask for Chip again when we will undoubtedly be returning to the Pig , amp; Pickle.

Best of all the Pig , amp; Pickle has an industry discount of 15%. Don’t miss the monthly beer dinner!
